Every Tuesday morning Katie’s Kitchen provides a free, nutritious breakfast to MJC students and faculty. For some, it may be the only meal they will get that day. One gentleman told us that he was transitioning from manual labor to office work because he had been injured on the job. Another said to us: “I don’t know if it’s appropriate, but I’d really like to hug you." All thank us profusely when they leave.
At the Care Cupboard, every student who enters is given a grocery bag to fill with food from our pantry shelves. Many of our students are older people who have returned to school hoping to better their lives by receiving an education. It is not easy for them to attend classes, work and support their families. Recently, one lady, a student as well as the mother of several young children, told us with tears in her eyes, “You people are saving our lives.”
